A CLINICAL EXPERIENCE OF HERPES ZOSTER

Abstract
A review of our understanding of herpes zoster deems pertinent and justified not only because of its frequent encounter in the course of certain lymphoreticular malignancies and its frequent appearance as complication of immuno-suppressive therapy but because of its unabating incidence and difficult therapeutic problem with regard to steroid therapy.
The author has experienced 50 cases of herpes zoster during the past 15 months (1987.7¡1988.10) and obtained the following analytical results.
1. Herpes zoster (shingles) is basically a disease of elderly population, average age among 50 cases being 55 years
2. Patients were evenly distributed between both sexes-no sexual preponderance notice-able.
3. Pain usually Preceded skin eruption by 4896 hours, more than 30 cases (62%) falling into this age bracket.
4. Laterality had no in fluence, for in 26 cases the right side was attacked, and in 24 the left side.
5. Underlying serious diseases were not encountered in this study but a case of secondary cellutitis with alcoholc abuse was met.
6. There was no seasonal predominance in incidence among 4 seasons.
